ASIA IMAGINED IN THE BAUR AND CARTIER COLLECTIONS
Baur Foundation, Museum of Far Eastern Art – Geneva
From 12 November 2015 to 14 February 2016, the Baur Foundation in Geneva presented Asia Imagined in the Baur and Cartier Collections. This exceptional exhibition was designed to show the connections and echoes between a selection of more than 160 creations from the Cartier Collection and around a hundred pieces from the collections of the Baur Foundation. This juxtaposition created by Estelle Niklès van Osselt, an expert on China and the exhibition’s curator, explored the forces of attraction that connect Cartier to Asia. It was a fresh perspective that invited visitors to consider the role that Cartier has played in the discovery of Far-Eastern art, and provided an opportunity to admire the originality of two visionaries: the jeweller Louis Cartier and the collector Alfred Baur.
